Identification - One should suspect fleas whenever he/she develops clusters of supremely itchy spots or bumps on the lower
leg above the sock line or on the trunk above the elastic band of the underwear. Bites may number from a few to too
numerous to count. What do bite's look like. - A telltale sign of fleas is the presence of a small "bite mark"
or puncture in the center of the itchy bump as seen in above picture. Some highly allergic people develop blister like allergic
reactions.
You do not have to own a pet to get flea bites. You just need to walk where pets have been, including outdoors. There is
seasonality to flea bites, being more common when it warms after the rainy winter.
Flea bite remedy for humans---People with naturally blond or red hair will attract flea bites. One popular
remedy is using Avon skin so soft, fleas are repelled by it. Avon also makes an insect repellent that is quite
good, (believe me I have tried them all). A cheaper remedy is Vicks Vaporub, or it's generic equivalent. Rub
it on your feet and ankles, it soothes the pain and itch, while repelling another bite. Fleas are attracted
to the colors yellow and white, so do not wear any shoes, socks or pants with those colors.
Flea bites on humans are found on the legs and ankles; often two or three bites in a row. They are small red spots
with a light-colored center. To relieve the itching from flea bites, apply cooling preparations such as carbolated vaseline,
menthol, camphor, calamine lotion or ice. See a doctor immediately if you have a severe allergic reaction to any insect bite.
A
flea repeatedly bites a human or animal to produce flea droppings containing undigested blood. These droppings appear as tiny
black specks and are eaten by an immature stage in the flea's life cycle. These are often seen together with a flea's white
eggs and together they resemble a mixture of salt and pepper.
Flea Bites and Pets-- They can do damage
beyond irritating your pet. These bites can cause a serious skin condition known as FAD (flea allergy dermatitis). In addition,
fleas often carry tapeworm, a harmful intestinal parasite.
Flea Bites and Dogs--In spite of common
belief, a normal dog experiences only minor skin irritation in response to flea bites. Even in the presence of dozens of fleas,
there will be very little itching. On the other hand, the flea allergic dog has a severe, itch-producing reaction to flea
bites. This occurs because the animal develops an allergic response to the flea's saliva. When the dog is bitten, flea saliva
is deposited in the skin. Flea bites cause intense itching, and this is of a long lasting nature.
Flea
bite symptoms--The dog's response to the intense itching is to chew, lick, or scratch. This causes hair loss and can lead
to open sores or scabs on the skin(as seen in picture below), allowing a secondary bacterial infection to begin. The area
most commonly involved from bites is over the rump (just in front of the tail). This is probably because fleas find this part
of the dog more desirable. Many flea-allergic dogs also chew or lick the hair off their legs because of this.
How to control fleas--It is important for you to vacuum the carpets, furniture, and your dogs bedding
everyday. Place the cut-off end of a flea collar, or a moth crystal, into your vacuum cleaner bag to kill any vacuumed adult
fleas. Vacuum the dog if he will let you! Groom him daily with a flea comb. Do not be surprised if you occasionally find a
flea on him. He will bring them in from outside.
Be sure not to keep your dog or cat outside during your flea infestation. It does take a couple of weeks to rid your
house of the fleas and stop the cycle . The food source of fleas is blood, preferring your pet's blood. If the
pets are not available, humans may be the new meal source, Be sure and treat your pets with Advantage or Frontline flea
treatment. You can also relive the itching and infections your pets get from bites by putting APINOL on them.

Do I have fleas
Yesterday
I went to the doctor because ever since Sunday I gotten bit everyday between three and tn times by something. The
doctor thought they were spider bites and sent me away with steroid cream for the itching. Well, that does nothing
for the continued bites I get. I have the bites on my calves, under
my bra line, at my waist in both the front and the back. Does this sound like spiders to you? I don't think
so. It sounds like fleas to most people I have told. The bumps are red, generally not too big and itchy and
the are often in groups of three to four together. They seem to have one puncture mark. My landlord has suggested
setting off a bug bomb, but I don't like using harmful chemicals in my home. My husband has been entirely unaffected
by whatever it is that is attacking me. Any suggestions you can offer will be so appreciated. I feel so helpless.
Hi, thanks for your question. Its really hard to tell whats biting you without
doing an inspection. It could be spiders, bedbugs, mites,or fleas. Flea bites are usually found around the ankles
in homes that have pets or have had pets in their home at sometime. It would be a good idea to place an insect monitor (flea
trap) in your bedroom. You can see a how to make a trap or insect monitor below. Biting insects such as fleas,
spiders, and others are attracted to the traps light and heat. They get stuck in the sticky pad when jumping towards
the light. You can also use a cake or pie tin full of soapy water below a small night light. Its a good non toxic way find
out what type of bugs might be in your bedroom.
Sometimes humans will experiance symtoms such as itching, irritation,
and red rash like bites. Much of the time pests will not be involved, and relief lies outside the realm of pest control. Everyday
items found in your home can cause these type of skin reactions similar to bug bites. Some of these items are soaps, detergents,
cleansers, cosmetics, hair products, medications, paper, cardboard, clothing, and insulation, the most common is insulation,
which can cause a rash, sores, welts, and prickling sensation on your skin. It may be nessesary to see a dermatologists.
Homemade flea trap -- place a shallow pan of water with a little dish detergent (acts as a wetting agent which breaks
water surface tension) on the floor. Position a goose-neck lamp or night light about five to six inches above the liquid surface.
Adults will leap toward the light .
Control even the worst flea infestations in homes. A flea trap is a safe and simple permanent appliance that uses heat
and light to draw fleas from up to 25 feet away. Fleas attracted to the trap fall through the grid and meet a sticky demise
on the replaceable capture pad. Trap catches 4 to 6 times more fleas than older style traps. Adult fleas are killed by the
thousands on the replaceable capture pad. Works year round without poisons, expensive pills or visits to the vet. Capture
pads last for 3 months or until filled with up to 10,000 fleas. Made in USA from unbreakable plastic.

Fleas biting
dogs and myself in bed
Hi. The past 2 weeks me and my 2 yorkie
terriers have been bitten by I assume are fleas because they are very small and they are located on my bed in
groups. I have laminate flooring and yesterday removed a large area rug under my bed. Do you have any suggestions
of what I can do to get are yard rid of them from my me and my dogs?
You should really have an exterminator take a look to determine
they are not bed bugs. If they are fleas you should treat your terriers with Frontline or Advantage. Diatomaceous Earth is
safe and can be used on your yard.
